Here’s what Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds played as they kicked off 2024 ‘Wild God’ European tour
Cave and co. opened the first night of their latest tour in Germany, giving a host of tracks from new album 'Wild God' their live debut

The legendary musician opened the ‘Wild God’ tour – in support of his new album of the same name – at the Rudolf Weber-Arena in Oberhausen, Germany, where he performed a host of new tracks live for the first time, along with classics and even a song from his side project Grinderman.
The setlist included live highlights like ‘Jubilee Street’, ‘From Her To Eternity’ and ‘Red Right Hand’, along with debuts for new songs like ‘Joy’, ‘Frogs’ and ‘Wild God’.
Cave and Co. also performed their most tender tracks including ‘I Need You’ and ‘Into My Arms’. There was even a performance of ‘Palaces Of Montezuma’ by Grinderman, the first time it’s been performed as Nick Cave and & The Bad Seeds, according to setlist.fm.

This tour will see Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood join the band on bass across all dates, after it was announced that Martyn Casey wouldn’t be able to join due to illness.
Greenwood played with Cave live on his recent solo tours as well as several dates of the ‘Carnage’ tour with Warren Ellis. Greenwood contributed parts to ‘Wild God’, too.
Meanwhile, NME recently spoke to Cave’s closest collaborator and band member Ellis about the making of the new record, shedding some light on the frontman’s perspective on the music which allowed more joy in following the grief of his sons Arthur and Jethro.
“Clearly, Nick has a very personal slant on these records – particularly the last few. They have been very different to anything he’s ever done,” Ellis said.
“He’s lost two of his kids; that’s something I could never understand. I’ve been around him when it’s happening and made the records with him, but I’ve never had something like that happen to me.”
He continued: “All that I could do was go in and work with him on the records. You wade in and do what you can, and try to do the right thing by the person. The best that you can do is to be there.”
NME awarded ‘Wild God’ four stars, writing that the “once dark prince lets the light in”. It added: “Once the godfather of goth, now a freewheelin’ preacher of joy, Cave elevates above the grief on this colourful 18th album.”
Following the European leg, Cave will bring the ‘Wild God’ tour to the UK and Ireland at the beginning of November. The run includes two nights at London’s O2. You can find any remaining tickets for the UK and Ireland shows here, and Europe here.
