“The internet’s going to run with whatever it is they run with”

JoJo Siwa has cleared up a joke she made at the Industry Dance Awards this week in which she caused controversy by “thanking” Beyoncé.

At the event on Tuesday (October 8), the ‘Karma’ singer said to the crowd, “I also have to say thank you to Beyoncé, just so that we can keep the dancing community safe. Beyoncé, you’ve got great music, we all love to dance to it. We all love you…Someone had to, and I will be the someone.”

Some understood Siwa to be referencing an online trend where people effusively praise Beyoncé in order to stay on the ‘Crazy In Love’ star’s good books, while others thought she might be referencing the unsubstantiated rumours that somehow Beyoncé and Jay-Z are connected to the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs allegations.

Siwa has now opened up about her intentions with the joke to Us Weekly, saying, “the internet’s going to run with whatever it is they run with”.

“They do their thing, and I can’t predict what they’re going to do,” she added. “I think Beyoncé is great and she’s written a lot of incredible music that we’ve all used [and danced to].”

Earlier this week, Piers Morgan issued an apology after airing allegations about Beyoncé and Jay-Z on his Uncensored show. During an interview, singer Jaguar Wright put forward accusations against the couple, alleging they have “hundreds of victims”.

“For four years I’ve been screaming not just Diddy, but Diddy and Jay-Z are monsters,” she said.

Morgan later explained that he had been contacted by Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s lawyers, and apologised for broadcasting the statements made by his guest.

Combs was arrested in New York last month and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transporting for prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He was denied bail and reportedly placed on suicide watch while awaiting trial, with some reports suggesting that he was not eating in prison out of fear of being poisoned.

In other news, Siwa has also recently opened up about the controversial cover of LadyGunn on which she poses with a bulging thong. Speaking to the Hawk Tuah girl, she compared the image to Harry Styles wearing a dress on the cover of Vogue.

“The stone bulge is — we were just giving a little spice, a little gender-bend, a little you can be anything you want to be,” Siwa said. “It just was spicing myself up a little. It’s like back in the day when Harry Styles wore a dress. Obviously, wearing a bulge is a little different than wearing a dress.”

The Polish Eurovision committee also recently denied Siwa’s claims that she is “in talks” to represent the country at next year’s song contest.
