Watch Knocked Loose and Poppy’s epic ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ performance
"TV history was written right here"
by Tom Skinner · NMEKnocked Loose and Poppy performed their collaborative single ‘Suffocate’ together on US TV last night (November 26) – watch below.
The US hardcore punk band teamed up with the singer-songwriter on the track earlier this year. It appears on Knocked Loose’s third and latest album, ‘You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To’, which was released in May.
Earlier this month, the joint song was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the Grammys 2025.
After giving ‘Suffocate’ its live debut at Sick New World Festival in April, Knocked Loose and Poppy featured as the musical guests on yesterday’s episode of ABC chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Here, they unleashed a particularly ferocious rendition of the hard-hitting and riff-heavy single in front of a live audience as rain poured down at the outdoor venue.
Opening with a crushing guitar riff, the epic TV appearance included blazing pyro, circle pits in the wild crowd, and next-level screaming from both frontman Bryan Garris and Poppy.

Knocked Loose stayed on stage to play four more songs for their fans in the audience in the form of ‘Don’t Reach For Me’, ‘Moss Covers All’, ‘Take Me Home’ and ‘Sit & Mourn’ from ‘You Won’t Go…’.
However, it was only ‘Suffocate’ that was broadcast on last night’s Kimmel. Upon announcing the “mini-concert”, Knocked Loose described themselves as “the heaviest band on live television”.
In the comments section, one impressed viewer wrote of the ‘Suffocate’ performance: “A song this heavy being on a late-night talk show is insane.” Another fan said: “Some kid watching this and seeing metal for the first time has found his calling.”
A third person added: “Bryan hitting a squeal on national TV in the greatest thing ever.” Someone else commented: “TV history was written right here. Perfect performance!”
Elsewhere in the posts, a YouTube user wrote: “Gojira at the Olympics. Knocked Loose on Kimmel. What a time to be in the metal scene.”

Knocked Loose are due to embark on a UK and European headline tour next March – find any remaining tickets here (UK) and here (Europe). The group played in the UK and Europe earlier this year.
They recently wrapped up a run of North American dates and supported Slipknot at their ‘Here Comes The Pain’ 25th anniversary shows in the US and Canada.
Next summer, Knocked Loose will perform at Outbreak 2025 in Manchester and the festival’s newly-launched London edition. They’ll also appear at When We We Young Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada in the autumn.
Speaking to NME at Reading Festival 2023, Bryan Garris was asked how crowds in the UK compared to those across the pond.
“Oh, that’s an interesting question,” he responded. “I think something that I’m starting to notice a huge difference is that the sing-alongs here feel louder. Maybe America’s gotta step its game up.”
Poppy released her sixth studio album, ‘Negative Spaces’, on November 15. During a recent interview with NME, she talked about joining forces with Knocked Loose on ‘Suffocate’.
“Energy is at an all-time high for a Knocked Loose show,” Poppy explained. “People have come to leave it all on the floor. It’s hard to not smile when you’re met with that energy on the front line.”
As for her sound of her new album, she told NME: “I feel this record is some of the heaviest [work] that I’ve done, but it’s also the most saccharine and sweet. There’s a feeling I get, when I’m sitting amongst the extremes, that feels very whole to me.”
