Harrison Ford has revealed that he once worked as a chef before his acting career took off.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (October 9) the Star Wars and Indiana Jones actor said that he worked as a chef “for relatively short periods of time, until they found out about me and fired me”.

“My first job was I cooked at a hospital. I don’t know what I told them but they gave me a knife and a bunch of carrots, and I cut this part of my finger off within minutes,” he explained.

“But the sew-your-finger-back-on department was right down the hall, and right after that was where they fire you for lying about [his cooking skills].”

He also recalled that he once worked as a cook on a yacht.

Ford continued: “I was working on a yacht that was owned by the youngest bank president in Chicago at the time. He had a yacht and a boutonnière and he was a nice guy, but he didn’t know much about cooking.

“But he was heir to the Swift meatpacking factory, so all I had to do was buy really expensive beef.”

The actor is set to appear in the second season of Shrinking, which is set to drop on Apple+ next Wednesday (October 16).

Reviewing season one in 2023, NME awarded the show two stars and described it as a “sickly sweet psych-sitcom [that] will give you a headache”.

Elsewhere, Ford recently claimed that he acts like “an idiot for money” in the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World.

When asked how he prepared for the role, he replied: “It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before.”

It is due to be released in cinemas on February 14, 2025.
