Explore Jonathan Pratt's life beyond Bargain Hunt from family and hobbies to new theatre role

by · DevonLive

Bargain Hunt has returned to BBC One, with expert Jonathan Pratt providing invaluable guidance to the competing teams. His career as an auctioneer has evolved significantly over time.

These days, he finds the most enjoyment in managing substantial ventures like house sales. Yet, as a child, his ambition was to become a vet, until he humorously remarked: "But in 1986 the series Lovejoy started on the BBC and that was that."

Were he not immersed in the antiques realm, Pratt expressed a desire to delve into garden design. He mentioned: "I used to say I'd be a ski instructor but my back and knees wouldn't take it anymore."

Skiing remains a secret indulgence for him, though much of his leisure time is now devoted to "taxi driving the children". Discussing his preferred ways to unwind off-screen, he elaborated: "Gardening, taxi driving the children, answering emails."

He also shared his newfound pleasure in croquet, having acquired a set at an auction. Jonathan's academic background includes studying Fine Art and Chattels Valuation, followed by a stint as a furniture porter at Philips Auctioneers in Edinburgh, reports the Express.

His resume boasts roles at Phillips in Guildford, Dreweatt-Neate Auctioneers, Sotheby's Sussex, and Bellmans, where he ascended to the role of managing director.

Specialising in jewellery, furniture, and Persian carpets, Jonathan Pratt is equally recognised for his contributions to the show Flog It!

The show's bio provides a deeper insight into his domestic life with wife Claire and their children, stating: "Married with four kids, three dogs, a thirty-year skiing habit he can't kick and a love-hate relationship with a guitar."

"When up early enough he loves to run with the family's motley crew of canines in the Hampshire countryside."

Jonathan is active on Instagram where he describes himself as a theatre enthusiast, and has even secured a minor role in Kiss Me Kate.

The production is scheduled for November at the Theatre Royal Winchester, with Jonathan sharing: "It's official, I've been bitten by the bug, but who doesn't love Cole Porter."

"This time it's a small part, nonetheless I seem to have been at rather a lot of rehearsals."

He also spent the summer refurbishing his garden, proudly declaring: "We are almost there after a year."

"From brambles to a lovely limestone courtyard and now to trees and more plants."

Bargain Hunt airs on BBC One on weekdays at 12.15pm
