Fiery flamenco from Spain lights up Devon with dance and song this September
Flamenco is coming to South Devon with workshops and shows
by Abi Bradshaw · DevonLivePassionate music and dance from “the cradle of flamenco” will infuse South Devon this September, thanks to a tour by authentic Gypsy performers. Lola Flamenco are bringing their fiery Spanish dance and song from their home in southern Spain to Devon venues.
Audience members can join in with the footwork if they sign up for dance workshops being held at two venues in South Devon.
Lola Flamenco hail from Jerez de la Frontera, the heart of gitano (Gypsy) flamenco country, and offer authentic artistry from the area.
“The show they bring is a passionate performance of song, dance, and incredible guitar that leaves audiences sizzling in their seats,” a spokesperson said.
“The show features authentic music and dance routines passed down through families for generations, with costume changes that ensure the performance is a feast for the eyes and the ears.
“The group has performed at various UK venues, including Glastonbury Festival, and invariably the high-octane experience results in standing ovations at the climax of their scintillating shows.
“Expect hot flamenco that moves your soul.”
There will be an opportunity for people to try flamenco themselves, as Lola Flamenco dancers and their guitarist will be hosting two dance workshops on their South Devon dates. These will take place on Saturday, 28 September at The Flavel in Dartmouth from 10am to noon, and Sunday, 29 September at Ashburton Arts Centre from 1pm to 3pm. The workshops cost £15.
The troupe of dancers and singers will perform at both venues at 7:30pm following their workshops. For tickets, visit thelittlebigtown.com/tickets/.
