by · DevonLive

A boat has washed up on a beach in Devon on Sunday morning - leaving local residents wondering where it has come from and why.

The bright orangey red vessel washed up on the beach in Sidmouth with photos showing it resting on the pebbled beach as the tide went out.

According to photos taken by a local resident, the craft looks to be a lifeboat or rescue vessel from a larger ship.

Signage on the boat's exterior details that it can usually fit up to 19 people inside. An IMO number also printed on the side, when typed into Google, brings up details of a container ship called the BF CARP.

According to ship tracking site Vessel Finder, the ship has been travelling from Belgium to Morocco since December 16.

More photos from the scene on Sunday morning show a team from the Coastguard cordoning off the area and inspecting the boat.

DevonLive has contacted the Coastguard for more information.
