Pride in Ilfracombe Awards celebrate community heroes at local ceremony

The annual Pride in Ilfracombe Awards ceremony has honoured the exceptional contributions of local volunteers to the community.

The accolades were presented recently by the deputy mayor, Councillor Mark Fay and North Devon MP Ian Roome.

Held at The Carlton Hotel in Ilfracombe, the event celebrated the efforts of individuals who have made a significant impact in their communities.

Volunteers from various organisations were recognised for their dedication and service, from supporting vulnerable groups to organising community events.

Both the deputy mayor and the MP commended the volunteers for their selfless work, highlighting the crucial role they play in fostering community spirit and resilience.

Winners were:

  • Customer services award: The tourist information volunteers (Tom Harvey, Penny Berning, Helen Webb, Sharon Furmston and Ray Williams)
  • Environmental issues award: Steve Trebble (Ilfracombe in Bloom)
  • Neighbourhood services award: Alan Banister (Lee Bay Community)
  • Acts of kindness award: Dan Kehily-Jones and Hayley Whetter (Silk Crystal Studio)
  • Voluntary work award: The Sea Ilfracombe Crew (John Irwin, Heather Tong, Julie Irwin, Paul Jaggers, Tony Seymour and Neil Ingram)
  • Dedicated in care award: Ian Gee and Roseanna Kenny (Pickwell Foundation)
  • Citizen of the year: Alan Bannister.
