Everyone's Asking If "The Odyssey" Is Worth Seeing In IMAX, So Here's What Early Viewers Are Saying

Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey is finally in theaters, and some moviegoers have already seen the epic in its early hours of release.

The movie is making history as the first film shot entirely with IMAX film cameras. And for this reason, many people are buying out IMAX theaters to see The Odyssey in all of its glory.

But there's one issue with that. There isn't a surplus of IMAX theaters readily available worldwide. And only 25 theaters in the U.S. are equipped to show The Odyssey in true 70MM IMAX film. And for people who do have access to IMAX, many theaters are completely sold out for opening week, and for some, even beyond.

There's also the issue of the extra ticket costs. A regular ticket to The Odyssey will cost you $25 (in New York City), while an IMAX ticket is $32. Count in travel and concessions, and that's a pretty expensive day at the movies.

So what's the actual benefit of seeing The Odyssey in IMAX? And will you really miss anything if you don't? This tweet attempting to show the screen differential is going viral on social media:

"The Odyssey is a movie where poor people literally see less"

Here's what people are saying about the screen comparison on social media:

"It truly did not matter. There was nothing visually needed in the movie for IMAX"

@bookofchase / Via x.com

"watched it in a regular theatre last night and it was a perfectly good experience and I enjoyed the movie a lot (the sound is the star of the show actually, so try and see it in a theatre with great sound -- this movie is a treat for the ears!)"

@mad_mug / Via x.com

"The difference is actually insane 😭 70mm IMAX is the only way to watch this. Nolan cooked again"

@chidanand33 / Via x.com

"okay, the odyssey is a pretty epic movie. you really do need to see it in 70mm imax, there’s just so much on the screen."

@Lynt_ / Via x.com

"Didn’t affect my viewing at all, still a peak movie."

@emeraldninjalink / Via instagram.com

"Saw the movie. It really doesn't matter."

@gershonkreimer / Via instagram.com

"gotta watch it as it was intended"

@evil_to_men / Via x.com

"It’s not about seeing less. That 'extra information' is only about covering the audiences’ field of vision to allow immersion. It’s not essential for the enjoyment of the movie."

@carlospelis_ / Via x.com

"I don't wanna pay a little more for a ticket just to watch tom Holland hairs in IMAX, I AM GOOD WITH REGULAR 😂"

"If you see it in IMAX you will see more sky and more tops of people's heads as shown here. They cannot shoot anything top and bottom that is important to the story because no one not watching IMAX, which is almost everyone, would understand what is happening."

@bootsychootsy / Via instagram.com

"For me the sound imax has is the real difference not the screen"
