Stephen Colbert Burned CBS With 7 Blunt Words In His Triumphant Late Night TV Return

Stephen Colbert returned to late-night television on Tuesday ― but this time as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel’s show.

And he didn’t seem to miss one part of his old gig. “I have an opportunity to not think about the news every day, and I took it,” he said.

Kimmel noted that Colbert seemed happier and healthier. “Like I don’t drink a cup of poison every day?” Colbert replied.

Kimmel congratulated Colbert on The Late Show racking up Emmy Awards on Monday, including the trophy for best variety series.

“Did anyone from CBS call to congratulate you on your seven Emmys?” Kimmel asked. “I am not familiar with that organization,” Colbert cracked.

But the network did give him something after canceling his show earlier this year: They sent him 40 of the suits he wore during the show.

“They’re just sitting in a guest bedroom. I don’t know what to do with them,” he said. “If anyone is, like, just got out of law school and needs a suit, please call Jimmy. He’ll get the message to me.”
