I watched every 'Final Destination' movie so you don't have to (unless death is coming for you next)
by Jeremy Hayes · BuzzFeedDeath doesn't like to be cheated. That is the one thing audiences have learned from the Final Destination franchise. Each film tries to reinvent what we thought we knew about Death's design, and some of the most MEMORABLE death scenes that will drive your anxiety through the roof.
Buckle up! Here are all the Final Destination films ranked:
6. The Final Destination (2009) [aka: Final Destination 4]
The weakest entry by a considerable margin, the fourth installment of the franchise features the worst inciting incident —set at a racetrack— and offers nothing particularly interesting. Some fun, albeit brief, moments, but not enough to make this one memorable.
Best Death: The final death scene
I loved the X-ray introduction and the credit sequence, which showed the deaths in Final Destination 4. It felt straight out of a video game, but also a little gimmicky, given that this was a 3D release.
5. Final Destination 3 (2006)
The first dud, in my opinion, as far as the inciting incident death sequences. It's not that the fear of rollercoasters was a bad choice; it just didn't feel as real as the previous two. The overall story felt like it might have been the first time that this franchise was running out of ideas.
Best Death: Tanning bed
The way the tanning bed deaths are filmed is actually truly horrifying. Plus, the transition shot from dueling tanning beds to dueling caskets was wayyyyy too perfect for a horror flick like this. I was roaring laughing on first watch.
4. Final Destination 5 (2011)
Obviously, the ending of this film is what makes it stand out. Final Destination 5 had very forgettable characters, and a forgettable premise. I personally found the ending twist predictable with all the Paris references, but it didn't make it any less enjoyable for me.
Best Death: Death by fallen airplane parts
The wildest death in the entire franchise is also one I adore for its ridiculousness.
3. Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025)
I thought the ending was extremely disturbing and memorable. The entire flick seemed like a love letter to all the ones before it.
Best Death: Snapped in half by MRI machine
Although the scene was extremely silly (I mean, come on. The whole franchise is meant to be silly and fun), the magnetic pull of the MRI machine might have been the whackiest and most creative kill in the entire franchise.
2. Final Destination 2 (2003)
A surprisingly worthy sequel. The movie takes chances on trying to find new ways to break the cycle of death's new design.
Best Death: The highway pile up
No contest. No one can ever drive behind log trucks the same way again.
