We watched The Social Network in 2010 and then spent the next 16 years living the sequel in real time. Now Aaron Sorkin, the film's writer and director, is taking us behind the scenes to show us what really happened next.

More than 15 years after the release of The Social Network, Sorkin is back with The Social Reckoning, exploring a very different era of Facebook and the people behind it.

So before you head to the theatre, here's everything you need to know about The Social Reckoning, from what the movie is about to some very interesting behind-the-scenes details:
1. What is The Social Reckoning about?
Inspired by true events, The Social Reckoning follows Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz as they uncover and expose the social media company's internal documents. Described as a "true David and Goliath story," the film will follow Haugen and Horwitz as they work together to expose the truth about what was happening inside Facebook.

And if you're wondering if the film is a sequel, it is...but it's a little bit more complicated than that. Rather than being a traditional sequel that picks up right where The Social Network left off, The Social Reckoning is more of an accompanying film. This time, we're jumping forward several years to explore the events surrounding the "Facebook Files".
2. So what exactly are the Facebook files?
Basically, they're a trove of internal Facebook documents that whistleblower Frances Haugen secretly copied before leaving the company and gave to The Wall Street Journal in 2021. The documents gave reporters a behind-the-scenes look at what Facebook knew about issues like Instagram's effects on teens, misinformation, political polarization and harmful content — and what the company was doing (or not doing) about them.
Alongside the three leads, the star-studded cast includes Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen.
4. Where was The Social Reckoning filmed?
Despite being heavily based in Silicon Valley, The Social Reckoning wasn't filmed entirely in California. Production took place in Vancouver, British Columbia and San Francisco, California, filming from October 20th to December 9, 2025.

5. Was there any drama behind the scenes?
This is where things get interesting...If you've heard anything about Jeremy Strong and Jeremy Allen White not spending much time together while filming, there's actually a reason behind it.
Known for his intense method acting approach, Jeremy Strong reportedly took his approach veryseriously while playing Zuckerberg. So much so that he stayed in character while filming and between takes, meaning he didn't spend much time with the other actors on set.

In fact, Jeremy Allen White revealed that he and Strong spent zero (yeah, not little, but zero) time together while filming. Strong recently spoke out about the discussion around his approach to the role, saying: "I'm just there to commit utterly to serving the material...If some people feel that I'm taking it too seriously, or it changes the molecules in the room in a way that makes something uncomfortable, I guess that's something that I don't feel that I need to apologize for."
6. When does The Social Reckoning come out?
Luckily for us all, we won't have to wait much longer. The Social Reckoning will be in theatres on October 9.
