Catherine Zeta-Jones Reveals The Unexpected Tom Jones Detail She Personally Asked For In “Kill Jackie”
by Becca Monaghan · BuzzFeedCatherine Zeta-Jones and Daniel Ings have lifted the lid on Prime Video’s new revenge thriller, Kill Jackie, including the little-known story behind how the Welsh actress got Tom Jones involved in the series.
In an interview with BuzzFeed, Zeta-Jones revealed that it was actually her idea to feature Tom Jones – both his music and an Andy Warhol-esque painting.
“It came about through the script, when I was working with our writers,” she explained. “We needed this crazy home security system disguised, and we put it behind a painting, and I said, ‘it has to be Tom Jones’ – like a triptych, a fake Andy Warhol, and the music to go with it has to be ‘It’s Not Unusual’.
“We have great music in the show,” she went on to share. “Great, great, great, great music. Original, but also the ability for the music editor to bring in some great sounds”.
And she’s not wrong. The soundtrack features a string of seriously iconic hits, including Bad Bunny’s “NUEVAYoL”, The Prodigy’s “Everybody in the Place”, and “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys.
But while Kill Jackie might be a revenge thriller with plenty of action, the show also has a surprisingly hilarious streak, including one line in particular: “K-Pop and K-holes”. And apparently, that one was entirely down to Ings.
“That was him,” Zeta-Jones chimed in. “I’m not discrediting our fantastic writers who made this what it is, but so much of that stuff is him.”
“He said it once in a take, and I was like… huh,” she said while pulling a confused face.
Ings went on to say, “that’s part of the fun of it,” adding that being able to throw things like that into the mix really complements the dynamic between the characters.
