Prince George Has Officially Started Eton – Here Are The Fellow Royals And Celebs Who Also Went There Too
by Becca Monaghan · BuzzFeedPrince George, 13, has officially joined one of Britain’s most famous (and famously expensive) schools, following in the footsteps of his dad, Prince William, and uncle, Prince Harry.
Of course, becoming an Etonian comes with a rather hefty price tag. For boys joining in the 2026/27 academic year, tuition and boarding cost £21,891 per half, with three halves making up the academic year.
This means the basic annual bill comes to £65,673, before you start adding anything extra. There’s also a £3,840 acceptance fee, while registration currently costs £480.
Then you've got your music lessons, which range from £548 to £1,096 per half, while additional school activities typically add another £500–£1,500 per half.
So, yes, an Eton education is very much an investment exclusive to a small minority.
As George begins his new chapter, here’s a look back at some of the famous faces who were Etonians before him.
Prince William
Prince George is following directly in his dad’s footsteps. William attended Eton from 1995 to 2000, becoming the first future British monarch to attend the school.
Prince Harry
Harry joined Eton in 1998, three years after his older brother, and remained there until 2003.
Several members of the extended royal family, including Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, Prince Michael of Kent, and Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, were also Old Etonians
Eddie Redmayne
Long before his stint in the Fantastic Beasts films, Eddie Redmayne attended Eton at the same time as Prince William.
Tom Hiddleston
The man behind Marvel’s Loki is another famous Old Etonian. Hiddleston attended Eton before going on to Cambridge and later drama school.
Bear Grylls
It turns out Eton has produced at least one alumnus whose career went beyond the traditional classroom. Grylls attended the school and helped establish its first mountaineering club.
Spencer Matthews
The former Made In Chelsea star attended the school before finding reality-TV fame, and has since taken his career in a rather different direction, including launching CleanCo.
Dominic West
After attending Eton, West studied English at Trinity College Dublin before training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is known for The Wire, The Affair and The Crown.
Damian Lewis
Lewis developed an interest in acting while at Eton and set up a theatre company at 16 years old. He went on to star in Band Of Brothers, Homeland, and Billions.
Hugh Laurie
Following Eton, Laurie studied at Cambridge University, where he joined the Footlights comedy troupe alongside Emma Thompson and Stephen Fry.
Harry Lloyd
Lloyd began acting professionally while still at Eton, making his television debut in the BBC's David Copperfield at 16. He later played Viserys Targaryen in Game Of Thrones.
