Adrian Grenier's Response To His "Devil Wears Prada 2" Snub Has Everyone Saying The Same Thing

The Devil Wears Prada sequel is set to release in theaters on May 1, and all the main characters are coming back — except one.
While Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are returning for the sequel as Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, Emily Charlton, and Nigel Kipling, one character was notably absent from the trailers.
Andy's boyfriend, Nate Cooper, is not coming back.
In David Frankel's original 2006 adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's 2003 bestselling novel, Nate was portrayed by actor Adrian Grenier.
Speaking to Page Six, Adrian finally responded to his character not returning for the upcoming sequel. "We're all fans of the movie, whether or not we were in it," Adrian said. "Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn't get the call to be in the sequel. But I also understand there was some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it."
When the interviewer asked Adrian whether all the hate Nate received from movie fans had anything to do with his character not coming back, he replied, "As opposed to what?"
"Either way, it's a disappointment, and either way, it leaves room for a beautiful spinoff in which Nate has his own film," he continued.
Back in 2021, Adrian admitted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he didn't initially see where the hate against Nate in DWP was coming from. "I didn't see some of the subtleties and the nuance of this character and what it represented in the film until the wisdom of the masses came online and started to push against the character and throw him under the bus, and I got flak," he said.
"I might've been as immature as him at the time, so I personally couldn't see his shortcomings. But after time to reflect and much deliberation, I've come to realize the truth in that perspective," he added.
Well, if Adrian didn't realize that the consensus of fans was that Nate Cooper was a terrible boyfriend back then, his new remarks about Devil Wears Prada 2 can definitely confirm how the internet feels.
Some people were not amused by Adrian's response to not being included in the sequel. "Does he really think we wanted him back?" one person wrote.
"so he wasnt even acting in the movie," someone said.
This person bluntly said, "it is very important to recognize one's own insignificance sometimes."
Over on Reddit, people went even harder explaining why they wouldn't want to see Andy's "whiny" ex-boyfriend return to Devil Wears Prada ever again.
"C'mon dude, in what world is Andy's whiny boyfriend from Devil Wears Prada getting his own spinoff? Boy bye," one Reddit user said. Another echoed, "We don't need a whiny boyfriend thanks."
"I mean yeah, his character is the worst part of the movie. It's not entirely his fault, but the whiny boyfriend who keeps putting down his girlfriend's career isn't why the movie is getting a sequel," another person wrote.
"Andy's friends and BF were boring and unnecessary. They brought nothing. It was to show the effects of her hard-work career on her life, but it was still too much," someone else wrote. Another added, "He and her other friends were the worst."
"ain't no one come to see you, Otis!" another redditor joked. "He hated Andie's job, so...why would he be back? He gave her so much grief instead of trying to see she was getting swept away."
And this person said, "I think his arc was complete, I don't know what else he would bring to the sequel."
