Ed Sheeran was at the center of a massive cultural controversy in September 2026 that could even get the rest of his Loop Tour shows canceled. He was caught up in a hate train after his supporting act, rapper Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks on stage. Macklemore was subsequently dropped from the tour lineup by billionaire and Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft. After the rapper's ousting, all of Ed Sheeran's support acts, including Finneas, announced they would quit.
Amid the controversy and chaos, Ed said he felt like his family "abandoned" him during his tough time. His remark didn't sit right with his estranged cousin, Jethro Sheeran, who launched a scathing attack on the singer. After weeks of silence, Ed responded to the jab.
Ed Sheeran reacts to his cousin, Jethro Sheeran's digs at him amid Macklemore controversy
Ed Sheeran seemingly responded to his cousin, Jethro Sheeran's jabs in the wake of the Macklemore controversy. During his latest October 2026 concert in Atlanta, the Grammy-winning singer addressed the hate train directed at him after his opening act was removed from the lineup over the cultural controversy.
Ed shared that he got several hurtful texts and comments regarding the matter, including one from an estranged "family member." The Shape of You singer didn't name the family member, but he hinted that netizens already knew who he was referring to, as it was all over social media. His only relative whose criticism was highly publicized was Jethro Sheeran.
The 35-year-old Photograph singer said that he came across some harsh messages after recently locating a discarded phone of his from a decade ago. There he found the particular relative's text too. Ed noted that he has not been in touch with the relative for a long time. Many thought that it was his indirect response to Jethro's jabs, hinting that the latter's opinion didn't matter since they were estranged. However, Ed Sheeran didn't get too much into the details of it and stated:
"The other text messages were, like, from a family member who I haven't spoken to in a very long time. You might have seen [my relative] recently on social media."
Ed Sheeran's cousin, Jethro Sheeran said he was 'ashamed' of the singer
Ed Sheeran teared up in his September 2026 Philadelphia concert, saying that the Macklemore controversy made him feel, "All of my friends and family and people I know abandon me." After Ed Sheeran's remark made headlines, his cousin, Jethro Sheeran launched a scathing attack against him. Taking to Facebook, Jethro, who is also a musician, shared a post mentioning that he was "ashamed" of Ed.
Jethro alleged that Ed was "not a good person" and that his latest controversy will expose his true colors to the world. Ed Sheeran's cousin added that the Perfect singer was not a good artist and his music wasn't up to his taste. Jethro stated:
"Finally it's all coming out! I'm ashamed of my cousin Ed and what he's done. Finally the world and all his fans see through him. He's not a good person, I don't like his music so I can't say he's even a good artist."
Ed Sheeran's 44-year-old cousin further claimed that his family didn't fail to support him; instead, he had failed to stand by his own people in their time of need. Jethro called Ed a "coward" for allegedly abandoning Macklemore and booting him off the shows amid his controversy. Calling Ed a "bad human" for his actions, Jethro Sheeran stated:
"Ed Sheeran! He is shady, and he's dropped Macklemore himself I believe 100 percent he's a coward. In my opinion he's a bad human. Just my opinion from my experiences."
