Jada Pinkett Smith's highly publicized legal battle with husband, Will Smith's former friend, Bilaal Salaam, seems far from over. Instead, she has made a new move and asked a court to order Bilaal to undergo a psychological evaluation as part of his ongoing lawsuit with her.
Why does Jada Pinkett want Bilaal Salaam to undergo a mental evaluation?
According to the latest court documents submitted by Jada Pinkett's legal team, she has asked permission from the court for Bilaal to undergo a mental health examination. It can last between five and six hours. Notably, Jada has made the request because Bilaal accused her of causing him psychological harm in the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Bilaal Salaam has alleged that he had to live in constant fear due to Jada's actions. He also claims that her threats affected his life in several ways. Whether it was his relationships, finances, or overall well-being, the impact of her threats changed his life forever. In turn, he is seeking USD 3 million in damages.
However, Jada's attorneys have argued that if Bilaal has claimed severe emotional distress, then he must submit the results of an independent medical test. According to her legal team, it will help to understand whether those claims are true or false with proper evidence. Her legal team also stated that they should get a chance to verify the exact psychological injuries caused to him.
For those who do not know, the lawsuit goes back to Will Smith's birthday celebration in 2021. Bilaal has alleged that Jada and members of her inner circle were at a hotel. He alleged that he was pressured to sign a non-disclosure agreement by her regarding Will's private affairs.
Bilaal Salaam further claims that the situation became more grave after he refused to help her manage the fallout after Will slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars. He also mentioned that the problems increased after Jada found out that he was planning to write a memoir, which was supposed to have details about his and Will's friendship.
Eventually, it led to severe emotional suffering, high blood pressure, financial issues, and a negative impact on his personal bonds. Still, Jada has consistently denied all the allegations made against her. Her legal team calls the allegations baseless and an attempt to extract money by making sensational claims against a popular family.
In fact, Jada's legal team has already won multiple legal victories in the case. Earlier in 2026, a judge removed some parts of the lawsuit and asked him to pay thousands of dollars for Jada's legal expenses. Later, he also tried to add Will as a co-defendant in the case and alleged that the actor supported his wife during the issue. For now, the case is still ongoing, and we have to wait to know if Bilaal's claims will move to trial.
