Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have called it quits after being married for nine years. The duo announced their split on September 15, 2026, revealing that they have been apart for a while and that it was the right decision for their family.
The couple met in 2015 when they collaborated on the play, The Way We Get By. The duo tied the knot in 2017 and share two children. While announcing the split, they stressed that their bond remains strong despite parting ways and that they are committed to co-parenting peacefully. Amid Amanda and Thomas’s latest split, Amanda’s personal life has come into focus, including her past relationship with actor Dominic Cooper.
Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper’s romance suffered from certain complications
Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper's relationship started on the set of Mamma Mia! sometime between 2007 and 2008. The romance lasted until May 2010, but it was complicated from the beginning. At the time of filming, Cooper had been in a 13-year relationship with actress Joanna Carolan.
Carolan later said in an interview with Grazia that she initially believed his connection with Seyfried would be short-lived and that he had repeatedly told her he had ended things when he had not. She said she eventually had to ask him to leave and that she cried a lot before accepting that the future she had imagined would not happen. She also noted that success changes people and that she could not continue in that dynamic.
Seyfried later reflected that she had been foolish to believe that Cooper's previous relationship was fully over when they got involved, and that their level of commitment was not as aligned as she had thought. She described the aftermath as a very painful heartbreak that made it difficult for her to open up to people again for a long time.
In multiple interviews after the split, Amanda Seyfried pointed to several reasons why it did not work. She talked about the strain of a transatlantic long-distance relationship, with her living in Los Angeles and New York and Dominic Cooper being based in London, describing it as heartbreaking, confusing, and destabilizing. She advised against dating someone who does not live in the same country.
Amanda also took accountability for her own behavior at that age, explaining in a Glamour interview in 2014 that she had been too anxious, uptight, and controlling, which made a long-term future difficult. Cooper responded in a separate interview that he believed he would have handled that with care and would have tried to understand why she was upset and work through it. The final breakup in 2010 also coincided with tabloid attention around Cooper being photographed with Lindsay Lohan in Cannes, though neither addressed it as a direct cause.
The duo later repaired their friendship, staying in touch around birthdays and reuniting for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018. Seyfried said her husband Thomas Sadoski had initially felt jealous about the reunion but that the two men got along well on set, and that working with Cooper again was not weird at all.
Dominic Cooper has been a part of various films and TV shows
Dominic Cooper has been active in the entertainment industry since the early 2000s. He first gained attention in British theatre and film, including The History Boys, both on stage and on screen.
His breakout to a wider audience came in 2008 with Mamma Mia!, where he played 'Sky,' which led to work in major studio films. He has appeared in films like An Education, The Duchess, and Captain America: The First Avenger, where he played 'Howard Stark.' He has been a part of other films like The Escapist, The Duchess, Dead Man Down, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Warcraft, Stratton, and more.
He even played dual roles as 'Uday Hussein' and 'Latif Yahia' in Devil’s Double. On television, he is best known for AMC's Preacher, where he played 'Jesse Custer' for four seasons, and more recently for roles in My Lady Jane and the BBC drama series The Gold.
