Meet Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith's Wife, Actress Moves Court For USD 49K Fees From Bilaal Salaam

Jada Pinkett Smith has filed a motion to ensure that Bilaal Salaam pays the legal expenses. Bilaal previously claimed that Jada had allegedly threatened him in 2021.

Jada Pinkett Smith has recently approached the court to ensure that the legal expenses of a lawsuit are covered by her husband Will Smith’s former friend, who filed it against her. The case was filed by Bilaal Salaam in December 2025, claiming that Jada met him in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Commons in 2021 and threatened him by saying that he would be in trouble if he continued speaking about Jada’s personal business.

The new update has once again brought Jada Pinkett Smith’s career into the spotlight, where she has produced a few films and has launched a clothing line. Jada has been married to Will Smith since 1997. She first met the actor while working on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1994. Jada Pinkett Smith started her acting career in the ‘90s

Jada Pinkett Smith enrolled at the Baltimore School for the Arts, where she majored in dance and choreography, as per IMDb. Although she joined the North Carolina School of the Arts, she dropped out to make her debut as an actress. Jada started her journey with some TV shows. She specifically gained recognition for playing 'Lena James' in A Different World from 1991 to 1993. She continued portraying lead roles, appearing on shows like Hawthorne and Gotham.

Between her appearances on the small screen, Jada expanded her career into movies. She is mostly known for her cameo as 'Maureen Evans' in Scream 2. She has also played 'Niobe' in three films of the Matrix franchise. Jada has voiced the character of 'Gloria' in the animated film, Madagascar, followed by its two sequels. She has served as a producer of a few films, including The Human Contract, The Karate Kid, and After Earth.

Jada has also been the lead vocalist of a metal band, Wicked Wisdom. The group was established in 2002 and has worked with record labels like Suburban Noize and Interscope. The band has released two albums, starting with My Story, in 2004. Two years later, they released another project titled Wicked Wisdom in 2006, which had ten singles in the soundtrack.

Jada Pinkett Smith is seeking attorney fees of almost USD 49,000 from Bilaal Salaam in a motion filed on April 20, 2026 (ET). In the new legal documents, Jada has referred to the fact that she requested the court in February 2026 to strike the case against her since it is legally invalid, as per the anti-SLAPP statute of California. As per PEOPLE, Jada’s motion in February 2026 also reads:

“Plaintiff voluntarily gave media interviews claiming - without evidence - that he personally witnessed her husband, actor Will Smith, engaging in sexual acts. Plaintiff’s allegations were false, uncorroborated, and made to generate attention as part of an ongoing public campaign of harassment directed at Defendant and her family.”

Bilaal Salaam claimed in his lawsuit in 2025 that he collaborated with Jada Pinkett Smith on a few projects. The lawsuit stated that Jada reportedly threatened him at a private birthday party of Will Smith, organised at the Regency Calabasas Commons. The legal documents claimed that Jada was accompanied by seven more people when she spoke to Bilaal. Furthermore, Jada reportedly threatened Bilaal to sign an NDA and later threatened him while following him to his car along with her team.
