Media personality and Nollywood actress, Bisola Aiyeola, has opened up about her experience when she found out she was going to be a single mother.

Speaking in an interview with Tope Olowoni, the mother of one revealed that she was unhappy when she found out she was having a child outside of wedlock because her mother was also a single mother.

Aiyeola recalled feeling ashamed and scared that the trend could become a family pattern that would extend even to her own daughter.

I was scared and ashamed of being pregnant and having a baby out of wedlock. I thought I was going to get to get married because I was engaged at that time but we never got married.

“So it was so shameful because my mum was a single mum and I am about to become one, I feared my child might also have the same fate,” she recalled.

The actress said her family’s economic condition at that time also made the thought of having a baby unbearable for her, adding that she struggled with breastfeeding her daughter when she was born because she couldn’t believe that was her reality at that time.

The 40-year-old explained that with time, she began to accept her fate and cherish her daughter more, regardless of the circumstances surrounding her birth.

She said, looking back now, she was grateful for having her daughter and all the lessons from her experience.
