The newly rebuilt Swa Chaung Bridge on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway has been completed and opened to traffic.

On May 14, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant and Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win inspected the new 900-foot outbound bridge at Milepost 165/1 and observed vehicles crossing the bridge.

The Union Minister presented commemorative medals to engineers from Special Bridge Teams (6) and (10), as well as the Highway Maintenance and Supervision Team, in recognition of their efforts to complete the reconstruction of the bridge, which was damaged in the Mandalay earthquake, within the designated timeframe.

Both the inbound and outbound Swa Chaung bridges were damaged by the earthquake. Reconstruction of the outbound bridge was jointly carried out by Special Bridge Team (6) from the Nay Pyi Taw side and Special Bridge Team (10) from the Yangon side. Construction began on July 15, 2025, and was completed on May 14, 2026, allowing vehicles to resume crossing.

The new bridge can accommodate vehicles weighing up to 60 tonnes, and reconstruction of the inbound bridge will continue.
