OAKLEY — A Pittsburg man has been released without charges days after police arrested him in connection with a fatal shooting on Dutch Slough Road, jail records show.
Clayton Dortzbach, 40, was arrested Feb. 25 in Concord on suspicion of murder, after police identified him as the man who killed 38-year-old Edward Garofalo IV. The Contra Costa District Attorney’s office decided against charging Dortzbach and sent the case back to the Sheriff’s office to investigate what led up to the shooting, authorities said.
Garofalo, a Martinez resident, was shot and killed on Feb. 23, at the 3200 block of Dutch Slough Road in unincorporated Contra Costa. The shooting occurred about a half hour after sundown, authorities said.
Authorities haven’t disclosed how Dortzbach was identified as a suspect or the suspected motive. He was released from jail on Friday, records show.
