Zayn Malik’s U.S. Tour Goes Sideways
by Fran Hoepfner · VULTUREIt has not been a good or easy spring for Zayn Malik, who should be riding high on his (actually pretty solid) new album, Konnakol. First, the singer was suddenly hospitalized on the day of his album’s release, for reasons still unknown (though he thanked the hospital’s cardiologist in his post). Then he was dogged by rumors that his Netflix road-trip docuseries with former One Direction mate Louis Tomlinson went belly-up because the two got into a verbal and then physical argument that tanked the show. Neither has commented on the series, but they have since unfollowed each other.
On May 1, Malik posted on Instagram that while he was grateful for “the love, prayers, and well wishes” for his health, he has to “reduce the number of shows” on his tour. Whether this is directly tied to his health (the singer added that he’s feeling “better and stronger” than before) or the reportedly low ticket sales — or, quite possibly, the combination of the two — Malik didn’t specify, though he hopes to see “the rest of you,” a.k.a. not Americans, “around the world very soon.” His tour is now limited to the U.K., Mexico, and a handful of locations in South America. Perhaps the limited dates and warmer climates will help Malik regain the strength he needs to do a cross-country tour — and maybe some more intimate venues wouldn’t hurt, either.
