To all of the little girls and boys out there who are practicing their microtonal math rock in papier-mâché costumes and hoping to one day make it big: Never give up on your dreams. Angine de Poitrine, the anonymous duo from Québec who are getting so popular that Google now festoons their search page with polka dots, made their late-night television debut on The Tonight Show on Monday. They didn’t perform any of their songs from their recent containment-breaking album, Vol. II, but rather a new song, “Zugzegk,” which is so tight and throbbing that it makes you want to go surfing in the Spiral Jetty of the mind. (They have described their persona as a “bit of an Andy Kaufman–esque joke.”) That’s Khn, the guitarist and bassist, on the left; Klek is the drummer holding down the kit on the right. Just let all of their odd time signatures wash over you, and if you don’t, well, there’s always that Groupon billionaire you could listen to instead.
