Jay-Z’s Yankee Stadium Show Is a Family Affair

by · VULTURE

Last night was Bring Your Wife and Daughter to Work Day at Yankee Stadium. Jay-Z surprised the crowd at his New York show with Beyoncé and their eldest child, Blue Ivy. He opened the concert with “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” a song that originally featured Mary J. Blige. While MJB wasn’t there to sing her part, Beyoncé stepped in. “New York City, what’s up?” Jay cheered, per USA Today. “That’s how you start it!” Beyoncé showed the same love back to her husband, saying, “Give it up for my baby!” The show kicked off the first of three shows in Jay’s “Jay-Z 30” concert series in New York, celebrating 30 years of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.

Blue Ivy, who danced on stage with her mother during the Renaissance tour, joined her father to play piano for the song, “Feelin’ It.” Jay-Z couldn’t have been more proud and encouraged the crowd to cheer for his daughter, saying, “Make some noise for the legendary Blue Ivy Carter.” Jay’s always been proud of her musical ability, telling GQ how she’s an incredible pianist. “She won’t let us get her a teacher. She doesn’t want it to be a job. But she has perfect pitch. If she hears a song, she’ll be like ‘Play it again,’ and then she’ll teach herself,” he told the outlet in March. “That’s just talent. She doesn’t work at that. She worked at this, and it makes me proud that she fought for something that she really wanted to do. I don’t think we’re going to be able to get her off that stage now.” Soon, Jay and Bey will be making cameos at Blue Ivy’s shows.
