Olivia Rodrigo Created Her Own Lilith Fair
by Devon Ivie · VULTURELast month, Sarah McLachlan told me she was hoping a younger musician could be the torchbearer for a future Lilith Fair–type festival to “champion something like this.” Olivia Rodrigo and her real big expectations will carry it forward. The pop star, fresh off her No. 1 album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, has announced Daisy Chain Fields, a one-day music festival in Irvine, California, on August 29. Bikini Kill, Chappell Roan, Garbage, and Mitski are among those confirmed for the lineup, in addition to special guests Stevie Nicks, Karen O, and McLachlan herself. (We better get a group super-jam to “Gold Dust Woman.”) Like Lilith Fair, there will be a strong philanthropic element with net proceeds from the festival benefiting nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing and advocating for women and girls. “The festival celebrates the voices, artistry, and contributions of women in music, fostering an inclusive environment in which all are welcome,” Rodrigo said in a statement. “It affirms that music and collective experience can serve as enduring drivers of progress and social change. It’s a place where inspiration and curiosity lead to knowledge, strength, and action.” In a separate Pitchfork interview, Rodrigo said creating Daisy Chain Fields was “my calling in some weird way” and a long-held dream. Guts, she’s got ’em.
