Issa Knife When You’re (Almost) on Top of the Grammys Nominations

by · VULTURE

Even the most hardcore Charli XCX fans may not have believed you a year ago if you told them that their fave would be a Grammys darling. This is an artist who has somehow been both “pop’s biggest new star” in 2014 as well as the “Pop Star of the Future” in 2019. Now, five years later, Charli’s cleaned up at the 2025 Grammys nominations. She tied for the second-most nominations of any artist with seven, behind Beyoncé’s 11, and tied with superstars like Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone. That means she came out ahead of Taylor Swift, who scored six nominations for The Tortured Poets Department. (Swift’s also supposedly the subject of “Sympathy Is a Knife.”) Plus, two of her nominations were in the big three categories: Brat was nominated for Album of the Year and “360” was nominated for Record of the Year. Notably, Charli had only been nominated for two Grammys prior, and both were for guesting on Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.”

Other nominations for Charli included Best Pop Solo Performance, for “Apple,” Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her “Guess” remix with Billie Eilish, Best Dance Pop Recording for “Von Dutch,” Best Dance/Electronic Album, and Best Music Video for “360.” Notably, A.G. Cook’s remix of “Von Dutch” was also nominated for Best Remixed Recording, but, as Cook is the only listed remixer, the nomination goes to him alone. Sadly, that means that Addison Rae, despite being on a Grammy-nominated track, is still Grammy nomination-less. That is, until next year, when “Diet Pepsi” will probably sweep.
