Kim Gordon and Suzi Quatro Want to Kick the Rock Hall in the Bass
by Devon Ivie · VULTUREThis year’s induction-palooza for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a month away, which means, after we write our recap and sleep for two straight days, we can begin to think about the 2027 class. There’s plenty of artists who are way overdue for the honor, some of whom are happy to wage a campaign for the recognition. Add Suzi Quatro to that list. When asked by The Guardian in an interview about why she believes she hasn’t ever received a nomination, the musician (and leathered-up Happy Days legend) was candid with her dismay. “It is absolutely crazy,” Quatro responded. “It used to bother me but now I’ve read up on lots of people who aren’t in it, and I’m in good company! I always thought it was a no-brainer, because there was never a woman playing an instrument in a rock and roll band with world success before me. I just hope they’re not waiting for me to die so they can do it posthumously.” Quatro’s comment came a few weeks before Kim Gordon, a fellow bassist, was asked a similar question by Stereogum. “Sonic Youth will never be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, honestly,” Gordon said about her band’s chances. “I’m sorry, but I don’t really know what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is. It’s just a meaningless construct developed for, I don’t know, the commercialization further of rock music.” Let’s see if Liam Gallagher will shout something similar from the podium.
