A Note Sent to Media Reportedly Says Nancy Guthrie Is Dead

Multiple news outlets are reporting new details on the “credible” notes from those claiming to be Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers. Both Air Mail and NBC News say the second note says she is dead. Beyond that, the two outlets disagree. According to Air Mail, the note offers an apology and further demands for money to reclaim Guthrie’s body. NBC, the network that employs Savannah Guthrie, says the second letter contains no apology or additional requests for money.

According to NBC News, investigators examined two notes sent in February and believe they are credible. The first demanded cryptocurrency in return for Nancy Guthrie’s release. The second differed “in almost every way” per Tuscon local news station KOLD, which received both notes. After both letters were sent, Savannah Guthrie made a post on Instagram addressing her mother’s kidnappers. “We received your message and we understand,” she said on behalf of her family. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us and we will pay.” The next week, she posted another video telling anyone with information on the kidnapping “It is never too late to do the right thing.”
