Book of Mormon Cancels Performances Through May 17 Due to Fire
by Alejandra Gularte · VULTUREThe Book of Mormon has canceled two weeks’ worth of performances after an electrical fire broke out in the theater. “The fire was limited to the follow spot booth of the O’Neill. At this time, the exact cause of the fire is unknown,” ATG Entertainment wrote in a statement on Wednesday. “ATG Entertainment and The Book of Mormon are currently working with a team of industry professionals to begin repairs needed to the building.” On May 4, a small electrical fire broke out in the fourth-floor electrical room of the Eugene O’Neill Theater; the show’s two earlier performances from this week were canceled while they assessed the damage. The fire has seemingly not affected the show’s upcoming “Magical Mormon Week” in June, which pays tribute to the musical’s past 15 years of spreading the gospel. Looking on the brighter side, it’s an opportunity to get the theater ready for the big week ahead.
