Julia Stiles Checked With Michelle Williams Ahead of Her Heath Ledger Tribute

by · VULTURE

The cast of 10 Things I Hate About You joined Julia Stiles on Dancing With the Stars this week to pay tribute to Heath Ledger, and emotional fans will be glad to know there is no behind-the-scenes drama to be found. Stiles confirmed that she asked Ledger’s former partner the actress Michelle Williams for permission before performing the tribute dance. “I did ask Michelle if this was okay, and she said ‘yes,’” Stiles told Extra. When the site asked how she thought the family might feel about the tribute, she said, “I don’t really want to speak for them.” Classy and kind.

Another potential drama that was quashed centered around David Krumholtz, who memorably played Michael in the 1999 film but was not at the reunion. There was no snub on either side — he was just busy. “Here I am in the Catskill Mountains, upstate New York, fall foliage in full effect,” he said in an Instagram video. “I am here shooting a film. I could not be in L.A. for Dancing With the Stars last night. I would have loved, loved, loved to have been there. Everyone looked so amazing. Julia’s tribute to my dear friend, who I miss every single day, was amazing and stunning, and I’m so proud of her.” In the comments, Stiles responded, “We love you Krumholtz!” Given how many members of the cast are busy working actors, it’s honestly amazing that Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, Andrew Keegan, Gabrielle Union, and Susan May Pratt were all able to be there. No bad blood.
