Kristen Stewart Talks Herself Into Directing a Twilight Remake

by · VULTURE

The hour of Twilight is soon upon us. Kristen Stewart talked herself into being willing to direct a remake of Twilight in an interview at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. In light of her recent directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, Entertainment Tonight asked Stewart if she’d be down to direct a version of her breakout movie. “I was talking to one of my friends about that movie ’cause it’s on TV a lot over the holidays,” she said. “I was like, ‘How is that aging?,’ because they watch it every year on Christmas with their fam.” Then she seemed to startle herself with a realization: “Imagine if we had a huge budget and a bunch of love and support and … I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure. I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it. I’m committed.”

She did add the caveat that she still thinks the original versions had great direction, even if she’d love to remake it. “Look, I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did. I love what Chris [Weitz] did. I love what all the directors did with the movies,” Stewart said. “But they were so themselves and weird and kind of squirrelly and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, before they blew up.” Even if she doesn’t want to do a direct remake, there’s always the Edward-focused version of events. Someone get Stewart a budget and the rights — stat!
