Celebrate Christmas on Broadway With Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin
by Jason P. Frank · VULTUREA Real Housewives star may not be the most natural fit for a story about how money should not be the sole focus of life, but Lisa Rinna isn’t on Housewives anymore, so she’ll be fine. Broadway stars Andrew Rannells (Book of Mormon), Megan Hilty (Death Becomes Her), and Tituss Burgess (Oh, Mary!) are going to star in a live radio-play version of It’s a Wonderful Life this Christmastime. They’ll be accompanied onstage by real-life couple Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna. Rannells will play George Bailey, Hilty will be Mary Bailey, and Burgess will play the angel Clarence, with Hamlin as Mr. Potter and others and Rinna as Violet and others.
The upcoming production is adapted from the classic 1946 film by Joe Landry from a script by Frances Goodrich, Albert Hackett, and Frank Capra and will be performed as if ’40s-era actors are in a radio studio. Directed by Jerry Zaks, the “radio play” will feature live Foley effects and a band playing Christmas standards during “commercial breaks.” It will begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on November 4 ahead of a November 18 opening. The strictly limited run will last through January 3. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a $34 glass of wine at concessions.
