Miranda Lambert Says She Never Punched Chad Kroeger

by · VULTURE

This is how you remind me that Nickelback exists? Miranda Lambert finally debunked a long-standing rumor that she once punched Chad Kroeger, lead singer of Nickelback. On the New York Times’ Popcast, Lambert set the record straight. “True or false: You hit Chad Kroeger in the face,” asked host Joe Coscarelli. The answer is “false.” “I threw moonshine on his face,” she replied. “I didn’t do that.” It apparently “wrecked” his hair, too.

The story has been circulating since at least 2014. In her Rolling Stone cover story, Lambert’s now-ex-husband Blake Shelton dropped the blind item. “People always try to pop off or call her bluff at bars,” he said. “One of them, I don’t want to say the guy’s name, but he’s the lead singer of a very popular rock band. His initials are C.K.” He wasn’t talking about Chuck Klosterman. Lambert blames the lateness of the hour for the blowup. “It was just a late night, and no one was in their best state,” she said on the pod, adding that there’s no love lost between the two. “I don’t know if we’re fine now — but I don’t care.” Lambert has recently been mending fences with past celeb beefs. She and Kacey Musgraves, who co-wrote the song “Mama’s Broken Heart” and was rumored to be upset it was given to Lambert, collaborated on “Horses and Divorces” earlier this year. So if you’re keeping track of Miranda Lambert’s shit list, Musgraves is off. But C.K. and any “asshole [who] doesn’t like Willie” are still on there.
