Oliver Tree Dies in Helicopter Crash

Musician Oliver Tree has died at the age of 32. According to CNN Brazil, Tree was in one of two helicopters that crashed into each other above an electric vehicle yard in Rio de Janeiro. TMZ says Tree was in one helicopter with four other people: pilot Alexandre Souza, music producer Lucas Brito Chaves, director Lucas Vignale, and YouTuber Gaspi. The second only held a pilot. All six are now dead. Police are investigating the collision to determine the cause.

Born Oliver Tree Nickell in 1993, Tree broke into the EDM scene in 2010, at the age of 17. He was a close collaborator with Skrillex and Zeds Dead. Tree released an EP in 2013, then took a hiatus from the industry to study music technology at CalArts. In 2016, he began releasing new music. His 2020 album, Ugly Is Beautiful, went gold. At the time of his death, Tree was getting ready to kick off a world tour that would have taken him to America, Europe, Australia, and China.
