Which Swear Words Is Paddington Allowed to Say?

by · VULTURE

Maybe going on Taskmaster really does unlock a person’s sense of whimsy. The Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated Armando Iannucci will write the upcoming fourth Paddington movie alongside his frequent collaborator Simon Blackwell, Variety confirms. Known for creating wicked political satires like Veep and The Thick of It, Iannucci is currently competing on Taskmaster. He and Blackwell are not known for their childlike style, but maybe part of Paddington growing up is that he must learn to say things like “Jolly Green Jizzface.” Dougal Wilson, who directed the most recent movie in the series, Paddington in Peru, is reportedly in talks to return for the fourth film. Wilson took over the franchise from Paul King, who is now (not a joke) working on a live-action Labubu movie. Somehow, that is a separate film from the upcoming Gremlins 3.

Paddington 4 is part of production company StudioCanal’s work to turn “a heritage brand into a global phenomenon,” the company said in 2024. At the time, the company estimated that the film would come out in 2027 or 2028, with ’28 marking Paddington’s 70th anniversary. Also in the pipeline for the British franchise is the much-rumored transfer of the West End’s Olivier-winning Paddington: The Musical to Broadway. This Peruvian bear is truly taking over the world.
