Apple TV Finally Releasing The Savant in 2027

A year after getting pulled from its schedule, Apple TV is letting The Savant out of witness protection. The show, which stars Jessica Chastain as an investigator who infiltrates online hate groups to prevent incidents of mad violence. The Savant will now premiere in 2027.

Apple’s decision to finally release The Savant comes after its most successful Emmy Awards ever. The streamer won 28 Emmys over the award show’s three nights, including a record-breaking 14 for Widow’s Bay. It’s the most wins by a comedy in a single year, beating last year’s record of 13 for The Studio (also an Apple TV joint).

The streamer decided to hold onto the show in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s death — a decision Chastain disagreed with. “We’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. Chastain said there had been numerous incidents of violence in the five years since she’d begun work on The Savant. These included Kirk’s death, but also the attempted kidnapping on Gretchen Whitmer, the January 6 riots, when someone attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer, “and over 300 school shootings across this country. These incidents, though far from encompassing the full range of violence witnessed in the United States, illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted.”
