Coldplay fans gasp as Chris Martin falls through trap door in front of huge audience

Coldplay fans were left open-mouthed after they witnessed Chris Martin fall through a trap door during his one concerts, as part of his Music of the Spheres tour.

The popstar, 47, who has released a hit song called We Pray, which includes a host of artists including Burna Boy and rapper Little Simz, took to the stage in Melbourne, Australia. According to reports, audible gasps from the crowd was heard, as the moment occurred. But ever the professional, Chris took it all in his stride.

He told the audience: "That’s not planned." Then he said: "Thank you for catching me." A video clip of the accident shows the singer completely fall out of view before finding his feet. But unfortunately, Chris is not the only one this happened to. He follows in the footsteps of Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish. Olivia's fall occurred in Melbourne also and was, like Chris, the result of a trap door being left open.

The ex partner of Gwyneth Paltrow who he shares two children, with paid tribute to the late cricket player Shane Warne, who died two years ago. He then decided to dedicate his track Sparks to the spin bowler. He said: "Let’s play this for Shane and his family. Our brother, we miss you. Every time we come to Melbourne, it used to be fun to hang out with Shane and all the Warne family."

He added: "I don't want to talk about it too much or I'll start to cry." Chris and Shane had built a solid friendship over the years as they bonded over their love of music and sport. And Shane, who dated Elizabeth Hurley, was often seen at Coldplay concerts, where Chris would describe him as a "warm" and "supportive friend."

At another concert in Melbourne, Chris made another touching tribute. This time, at the end of the band's show as they thanked the audience, the singer showed off a Melbourne Stars top with Shane's iconic number 23, emblazoned on it. He showed it to the crowd before hanging it over his microphone stand.

And the Stars were quick to respond to Chris' kind gesture. Taking to social media, they wrote: "So good to see Chris Martin reppin the Stars jersey last night in memory of his great mate Shane Warne." Shane joined the Stars in 2011 and played two seasons with them as a bowler and mentor before retiring in 2013. Last month, the band's tenth studio album Moon Music went to number one, which marks the biggest-selling album by a UK act in three year.

And the group is set to become the first UK act to earn more than £1billion by the time they fulfil their gig next summer. A source told The Sun: "Coldplay will be on course to bank £1billion from their Music Of The Spheres tour, which is an incredible feat. The global demand for their live shows is incredible and they sell out every venue."
