Sligo crash: Young driver dies in early-morning Tubbercurry collision as gardai close road

A young man has died following a horrific crash in Sligo during the early hours of the morning. The single-vehicle collision happened on the R294 at Drimina in Tubbercurry at around 3.45am.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was fatally injured. The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

Gardai have closed the road for a forensic collision investigation with local diversions in place.

They are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision at Drimina, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo in the early hours of this morning, Saturday, 26th October 2024. The single-vehicle collision, involving a car, occurred at approximately 3.45am on the R294.

"The driver of the car, a man (20s), was fatally injured. The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination. The road is currently being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and remains closed with local diversions in place.

"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 2am and 4am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí."
