The Kannada version of Toxic recorded an overall occupancy of 47.23% on Day 4. Meanwhile, the film’s Hindi version recorded an overall occupancy of 26.19%.
Toxic released on August 26 with a record-breaking Rs 101.10 crore net collection in India. However, the film witnessed a significant drop in collections over the following days.
The film has received a mixed response from audiences and critics. While some viewers have praised Yash’s screen presence, the film’s visuals and action sequences, others have criticised its writing, pacing and length. The divided response has sparked considerable discussion around the film since its release.
Amid the mixed reviews and divided audience response, Kantara director Rishab Shetty came out in support of Toxic. In a post on X, he praised Yash’s performance and the film’s attempt to take an unconventional route.
“As an artist, when you play a character, you try to bring it to life from the bottom of your heart. And here, I am truly impressed by the conviction with which the struggle of a powerful man has been portrayed. Maybe the plot and driving characters are not on the usual track on which most films travel, but that doesn’t mean the track is wrong. The effort that goes into telling a story, and the journey it takes from being a thought in the mind to becoming a film on screen, is humongous.”
Praising Yash, Rishab added, “Hats off to the way you have surrendered yourself to a character and a world that demands a larger-than-life performance. I could clearly feel that in every single scene. It’s not easy to give the audience an experience of how guilt multiplies and increases the toxicity in life. I stand with you for attempting this daring experiment, sir.”
He also praised Yash for his efforts to take Kannada cinema to the global stage and wished director Geetu Mohandas and the team at KVN Productions well.
Apart from Yash, Toxic also features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi and Akshay Oberoi.

'First watch of Toxic already asks for patience most people will not give twice'
User @emohanx said via X, "PR can sell tickets. It cannot shorten 3 hours.Watched #toxic in Tamil. @Toxic_themovie looks rich on screen. The camera work by Rajeev Ravi is the one thing that never drops: Goa, smoke, blood, faces, all framed like someone actually cared. Then the cracks show. Fights move so fast you lose the people inside them. When you cannot track who is hitting whom and why, the mass scenes go cold. @TheNameIsYash’s Raya is not a winner. He is shut off, rotting from the inside, still walking into the next fight the only way he knows. That choice works. Not every hero has to conquer. A decaying man with grit is rare. The romance does not. Scenes with @advani_kiara and the others keep coming, but there is little real warmth. After a while they feel like padding, not love. @GeetuMohandas made a film that is not bad. It is long. Second watch might give aftertaste. First watch already asks for patience most people will not give twice. Tamil dubbing is a disaster. Voices sit wrong on the faces. Dialogue needs to improved. Same care that went into Hindi should have gone here. Tamil audience paid the same ticket. Effort is huge. Shape is not."

Fan praises 'peak detailing' by Geetu Mohandas
User @FilmiHindustani's note on X read, "Years later.. as Raya heads towards the hospital because he is going to be a father, he gets surrounded by a group of goons. He takes down most of them, but one escapes.. a teenager. During the entire fight, Raya’s body gets covered in blood. And in that exact state..drenched in blood, he holds his newborn son Adam in his arms for the very first time in his life. What follows is one of the most brilliantly layered scenes in the film.. and one that many completely missed. Raya looks at newborn Adam (Actually the second son), but suddenly starts seeing his first son in front of him. And there’s a reason for that. The teenager who escaped is roughly the same age his first son would have been after all these years. This entire sequence marks the beginning of GUILT taking over Raya’s mind.. a guilt that had been buried deep inside him all these years. The blood covering Raya becomes a metaphor for the blood of his first son.. the guilt of having killed his own child. And with that guilt literally covering his body, he picks up his newborn son. And ironically.. when Raya was born, he was splattered with his own father’s blood. That scene beautifully trace Raya’s journey from a child born into violence to a father haunted by the violence he himself has committed. That’s when the hallucination of his first son begins. It’s not just a hallucination. It’s guilt, trauma, memory and fatherhood colliding in a single frame. This is not just a 'confusing' scene. It’s a deeply psychological visual representation of guilt consuming a man from within. Peak detailing by Geetu Mohandas. #toxic."

'Trust that audiences have for Yash is very much intact'
Trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal shared via X, "Toxic hasn’t quite reached the business level that I expected from the film. There’s no point denying that the numbers so far are considerably below expectations, and perhaps it’s best to let the audience’s verdict speak for itself with grace…… BUT…. There is one silver lining it’s TOXIC Day 1 collection, power and superstardom of Yash in Hindi Heartland…… The reviews were already out by morning, and the audience knew what the word-of-mouth was. Yet, the opening remained strong. That says something significant, the love, respect and trust that audiences have for Yash is very much intact or else collection would have fallen from 2pm….. Day 1 reflects the star pull. From Day 2 onwards, the audience decides the journey which has been already declared…… And I genuinely believe the audience will give Yash another opportunity. With #ramayana Part 1 and Part 2 coming in next fourteen months, there is plenty to look forward to. If #ramayan connects with the audience the way I hope it does, #toxic will eventually become just another chapter in YASH much bigger journey. It’s time for @TheNameIsYash to move from Toxic to Ramayan, and announce a new fresh massy pan India film for 2028……"

'If Toxic had been made with a smaller actor on a modest budget..'
X page @MovieReview_Hub shared, "My last thought on #toxic: I genuinely feel that if #toxic had been made with a smaller actor on a modest budget, it could have turned into a typical Malayali psychological thriller and possibly even a blockbuster. But Geethu Mohandas and #yash couldn’t quite handle the pressure of presenting a superstar on the big screen in a larger-than-life role after the success of #kgf2. That pressure seems to have taken away a lot from the story, which was actually very strong on paper. The focus gradually shifted from storytelling to Aura Farming, and that, for me, is where #toxic lost its potential. In attempt to make Yash bigger star than other, they took unnecessary from other movies from action scenes to bold scenes to being N*ked and lost entire purpose of story."

Not sure why so much negative publicity about this. Some of the scenes felt slow a bit in the first half. But it picked up the pace really well. Yash’s acting is amazing. Trailer already shows double role. So hope this is not a spoiler. The younger role of Yash has been made really well and he has acted really good. The plot twist and climax are so well made. Toxic is 'daring, visually striking and conceptually strong'
Reddit user @Dry_Pea_2328 posted, "I honestly can’t believe how some people are saying they couldn’t understand Toxic. What exactly was so complicated? The story and its underlying message were pretty straightforward if you paid attention. The concept is bold, unconventional and far more layered than the usual predictable commercial film. It doesn’t spoon-feed every emotion or explain every scene through unnecessary dialogue it trusts the audience to observe, connect the details and understand the characters’ motivations. Geetu Mohandas has created a distinctive world with atmosphere, style and substance, while Yash has delivered a powerful and controlled performance. His screen presence is exceptional, but the film also gives him more than just mass moments. There is intensity, vulnerability and purpose behind the character. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the coordinated negativity surrounding this movie feels excessive. Some people appear determined to dismiss it without even engaging with what the film is trying to do. Something is seriously wrong when audiences demand fresh concepts and then immediately attack a filmmaker for attempting something different. For me, Toxic is daring, visually striking and conceptually strong. Geetu and Yash have delivered. Perhaps this is one of those films that people will understand and appreciate more with time."
