South Korean running influencer Yoo Ji-won dies after collapsing near half-marathon finish line
by Gabs · MyNewsGh.comSouth Korean running influencer Yoo Ji-won has died at age 25 after collapsing near the finish line of a half marathon in Seoul on Sunday, October 11.
The Seoul Race organising committee confirmed the death in an Instagram statement on Monday, saying the participant collapsed less than half a mile from the finish line and was taken to a medical facility, where they later died.
The cause of death has not been determined.
Ji-won, who had more than 8,000 Instagram followers, regularly shared videos of her runs and athletic achievements. She also worked as an artificial intelligence semiconductor researcher at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
Her final Instagram post, published on October 4, featured her time in a 10-kilometre run.
Fellow running influencer Bummy identified her as the deceased participant and paid tribute to her, recounting how he had rushed to the hospital after learning about the incident but was unable to stay by her side.
Friends and followers have also expressed sadness over her death, remembering her as an impressive runner.
