'Rare and compelling': Newcastle inner city campus hits the market
by Matt Carr · Newcastle HeraldA MAJOR inner Newcastle education campus has hit the market in what is billed as a "rare and compelling" opportunity for developers.
Colliers on Tuesday confirmed the Laman Street site, home to Alesco College, will come to market early this year.
The 3028-square-metre site is dominated by a two-story federation building. It also features a freestanding multi-purpose hall and parking for 25 vehicles.
The land is zoned for mixed use and has a 30-metre height limit.
Colliers is managing the sale via expressions of interest beginning this month, and will offer prospective buyers details on heritage assessments, site surveys and development potential.
"This is a truly unique opportunity to acquire a piece of Newcastle's history while unlocking future value," Colliers director investment services Luke Rutledge said.
Alesco College has been on the site for more than 20 years.
Helga Smit, the CEO of the college's parent not-for-profit Atwea College, said the site had been listed as part of a broader strategic roadmap, and the changing requirements of Alesco students and programs.
"Proceeds from the sale will be reinvested into enhancing existing campuses and exploring new locations that better fit with current student needs, bringing a new chapter for Atwea College as it continues to evolve its educational footprint across the region," Ms Smit added.
