by Sage Swinton · Newcastle HeraldA man has been flown to Royal North Shore Hospital with suspected spinal injuries after jumping from a jetty in Port Stephens.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics and the Westpac chopper, were called to the Shoal Bay jetty about 12.30pm on January 1.
An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said a man believed to be aged in his 40s was seriously injured after jumping off a jetty.
The spokesperson said the man was taken from the beach by an ambulance vehicle before being transferred to the rescue helicopter.
He was then flown in a serious condition to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he arrived about 3.15pm.
The Shoal Bay jetty is a popular jump-off spot for swimmers, however some people have been seriously injured diving in to the water from the structure.
Ashley Treseder broke his neck and suffered severe spinal cord damage after diving off the pier in Shoal Bay early in the 2019 new year.
