A rescue helicopter has been deployed to Port Stephens on Thursday afternoon after a man was seriously injured jumping from a jetty, NSW Ambulance has reported.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics and the Westpac chopper, were called to Shoal Bay about 12.30pm on January 1.

An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said a man believed to be aged in his 40s suffered a possible neck injury after jumping off a jetty.

The spokesperson said he was being taken from the beach by an ambulance vehicle before being transferred to the helicopter.

He was expected to be flown to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.

The Westpac rescue helicopter has been contacted for information.

The Shoal Bay jetty is a popular jump-off spot for swimmers, however some have been seriously injured diving in to the water from the structure.

Ashley Treseder broke his neck and suffered severe spinal cord damage after diving off the pier in Shoal Bay early in the 2019 new year.

More to come.
