In a statement issued after the incident, a representative for Spears described the arrest as an unfortunate situation.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” the representative said.
“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The statement said Spears will be spending time with her children while her loved ones work on a plan to support her well-being.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being,” it added.
Spears has previously had encounters with law enforcement.
In 2007, the singer faced four misdemeanour charges after an alleged hit-and-run involving a parked car in Los Angeles. The charges were later dropped after she compensated the vehicle’s owner for damages.
Spears is one of the most successful pop stars in music history.
