Busfield, the 68-year-old actor known for roles in ‘Thirtysomething’ and ‘The West Wing,’ turned himself in to authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Wednesday.
He faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse.
The charge stemmed from incidents alleged to have occurred on the set of the Fox crime drama series ‘The Cleaning Lady.’

According to court documents, the parents of two boys accused Busfield of grooming and sexually abusing their sons over a period of years.
The boys, who reportedly addressed the actor as “Uncle Tim,” alleged that inappropriate contact, which began with tickling on the stomach and legs, escalated to touching of their private areas.
One of the boys claimed the abuse started when he was seven years old.

The prosecution presented an affidavit detailing severe emotional impacts on the children, including one child suffering from nightmares, bedwetting, and diagnoses of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety.
The boy claimed he was too scared to report the abuse earlier.
In a separate allegation outlined in another court filing, Busfield is accused of kissing and groping a 16-year-old girl “several years ago” at the B-Street Theatre in California.
Citing this and the current charge, prosecutors argued for his detention based on a “documented pattern of sexual misconduct, abuse of authority and grooming behaviour”.

Busfield, through his attorney Stanton Stein, however, denied all the allegations.
Stein characterized the New Mexico case as a “calculated effort” fuelled by revenge, alleging the mother of one of the boys vowed to “get her revenge” after her son was terminated from the show.
He pointed to a prior Warner Bros. investigation that was closed due to a lack of corroborating evidence.
Regarding the California theatre allegation, Stein argued that Busfield had taken and passed a polygraph test in relation to that claim.

The actor has faced previous accusations. In the 1990s and in 2012, two women separately accused him of sexual assault.
At a media conference on Thursday, Sam Bregman, Bernalillo county district attorney, disclosed that Busfield made an initial court appearance on Wednesday and a judge ordered that he remain in custody.
A hearing on the matter of bail has been scheduled for January 20.
Both Warner Bros. Television and Fox, in statements, said they are aware of the charges and will cooperate with law enforcement.
