Aespa achieves their dream: Wins ‘Song of the Year’ and six awards at the 2024 MAMA Awards

Aespa has turned their dream into reality, clinching the prestigious Song of the Year award and earning a total of six trophies at the 2024 MAMA AWARDS JAPAN.

The ceremony, held on November 23 at Kyocera Dome Osaka, saw Aespa crowned with the Song of the Year award for their hit track ‘Supernova.’

Upon receiving the honor, the group shared their gratitude, saying, “This is truly beyond our imagination. We’re so thankful for the love Supernova has received, and it’s an honor to be standing here. We’ll continue working hard to deliver even better music in the future.”

They also gave a heartfelt shoutout to their fans and supporters: “To our MYs, thank you so much for showering us with love all year. Some so many people helped us along the way, and we’re incredibly grateful. We love you, SM Entertainment! Our fans already know—our goal for this year was to win a grand prize. Achieving this at MAMA makes us so happy.”

Aespa further reflected on their journey, adding, “It’s been three years since we last attended MAMA. Back then, it was during the pandemic, and many fans couldn’t be there. Being able to share this moment with all of you in such a grand venue makes it even more special.”

Aespa was one of the most celebrated names of the night, taking home Best Dance Performance, Best Choreography, Best Female Group, and Best Music Video, in addition to their Song of the Year honor. Including the Fans’ Choice award from the previous night, they emerged as six-time winners at this year’s MAMA.

After winning Best Dance Performance, Winter thanked their fans and team: “We’re so grateful to our fans who cheered on our performances. A huge thanks to our choreography team, Lena, and all the dancers who helped make it amazing. We’ll keep working hard to deliver incredible performances next year as well.”

The group’s track ‘Supernova’ also won Best Choreography, with the members expressing their pride in the hard work they put into the song: “It’s an honor to receive this second award tonight. We worked so hard on these songs this year, and it’s heartwarming to see Supernova loved so much. Huge thanks to our choreographers, stylists, and everyone who supported us.”

Winning Best Female Group, Winter shared her gratitude: “This year, we received so much love, more than we could ever deserve. Thank you to everyone at SM Town, and of course, to my fellow Aespa members who worked so hard.” Giselle, speaking in Japanese, added: “I’m so happy to receive such a wonderful award. I know how much love you all have for us, and I truly love you back.”

Aespa’s ‘Armageddon’ earned the Best Music Video award, with Winter reflecting on its significance: “This music video is one of our favorites, and receiving this award makes it even more meaningful. We’re so grateful to the director, the music video team, and everyone involved—our stylists, makeup artists, and staff.”

She added, “We’ll continue to bring you diverse and exciting music videos, so please look forward to what’s coming next. Thank you so much.” With six awards, including one of the night’s grand prizes, Aespa’s success at the 2024 MAMA Awards solidifies their position as one of K-pop’s brightest stars. Fans around the world celebrated their achievements, marking this as a momentous milestone in the group’s career.
