Song Joong Ki returns to KBS after 10 years since 'Descendants of the Sun,' to star in 'Love Cloud' with Park Ji Hyun
by Demian09 · allkpopActor Song Joong Ki is set to return to KBS through the upcoming drama 'Love Cloud,' marking his first KBS drama appearance in nearly a decade since the massive success of 'Descendants of the Sun.'
According to industry sources on May 13, 'Love Cloud,' starring Song Joong Ki and Park Ji Hyun, has officially been scheduled as a weekend drama on KBS2. The series is expected to air in the first half of next year as the follow-up to KBS’s highly anticipated historical drama 'Munmu: The Great King.'
Reports were previously made late last year that Song Joong Ki was seriously considering the project, and discussions regarding its broadcast schedule have since progressed. Alongside Song Joong Ki and Park Ji Hyun, actors Lee Si Woo and Choi Hee Jin are also reportedly reviewing offers to join the cast.
'Love Cloud' is a romantic comedy set on the mystical island of Jeju, where even love is influenced by the weather. The story follows Kang Woo Joo, a former flight instructor, and Ahn Ha Nui, a former trainee pilot, who reunite seven years later as an air traffic controller and a pilot. Song Min Yeob will direct the drama, while the screenplay is written by the writer team Mad Rabbit.
The KBS casting is especially meaningful for Song Joong Ki. In 2016, he achieved pan-Asian superstardom through 'Descendants of the Sun,' which recorded peak ratings of around 38 percent. His portrayal of Yoo Si Jin solidified his reputation as one of Korea’s leading romantic comedy stars.
Since then, Song Joong Ki has continued to showcase his versatility through hit dramas such as 'Reborn Rich' and 'Vincenzo.' However, he has not appeared in a terrestrial KBS drama since 'Descendants of the Sun,' making 'Love Cloud' a highly anticipated homecoming project for both the actor and viewers.
