"I want to brag about her" Song Joong Ki opens up about becoming a father of two
by Sophie-Ha · allkpopSong Joong Ki recently opened up about becoming a father of two, sharing his heartfelt feelings and revealing how his wife’s support helps him focus on his acting career.
On December 23, he sat down for an interview at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, to discuss his new film 'Bogota: City of the Lost' (directed by Kim Seong Je).
The film 'Bogota' tells the story of Guk Hee (played by Song Joong Ki), a young man who dreams of rising from nothing to everything. Set in Bogotá, Colombia, after the 1997 IMF crisis, the movie depicts Guk Hee’s entanglements with Soo Young (played by Lee Hee Joon), a key figure in Bogotá’s Korean community, and Sergeant Park (depicted by Kwon Hae Hyo).
Guk Hee’s family flees Korea during the crisis but loses everything upon arriving in Bogotá. Desperate to cling to his last shred of hope, he begins working under Sergeant Park and is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
Ahead of the film’s release on December 31, Song Joong Ki, who announced the birth of his daughter last month, shyly shared a photo of her with reporters. He admitted that becoming a father has significantly deepened his sense of responsibility.
Married to British actress Katy Louise Saunders, Song Joong Ki announced their wedding and pregnancy in January last year. Five months later, in June, the couple welcomed their first child, a son, in Rome, Italy. This July, they shared the news of their second pregnancy, and in November, the birth of their daughter was revealed, making Song Joong Ki a proud father of two children born just a year apart.
With a warm smile, Song Joong Ki said, “Would you like to see a picture of my baby?” as he showed the reporters a photo of his daughter. He continued to share, “Having a child has made me feel an even greater sense of responsibility.” When teased about wanting to show off his daughter, he laughed, saying, “Honestly, I really want to brag about her. Is it too much?”
Reflecting on the moment he first held his daughter, Song Joong Ki said, “I wasn’t sure what would feel different, but when I held her, she clung to me in a way that was distinct from my son. I’ll never forget that feeling. The baby is healthy and growing well, and my wife is recovering well after giving birth.”
He added that his wife, who is currently overseas, hasn’t yet seen 'Bogota.' He explained, “She plans to watch it later. Right now, I’m balancing promoting Bogota and filming the drama 'My Youth.' My wife has been incredibly supportive.”
Known for his dedication, Song Joong Ki also revealed he studied Spanish for his role in 'Bogota' and continues to use it in daily conversations with his wife. He elaborated, “I often speak Spanish with my wife at home. Parents will understand, but there will come a time when our child speaks Spanish better than I do. I don’t want to fall behind, so I’m committed to improving my Spanish."
