‘Wonderfools’ director and Park Eun Bin address Cha Eun Woo controversy ahead of release

Yoo In Sik and Park Eun Bin addressed the controversy surrounding Cha Eun Woo ahead of the release of 'Wonderfools', emphasizing the hard work and dedication of the entire cast and production team.

Set for release on May 15 through Netflix, 'Wonderfools' is a comedic superhero adventure series set in 1999 that follows a group of ordinary neighborhood outsiders who unexpectedly gain superpowers and struggle to protect the world from villains threatening peace.

The series stars Park Eun Bin, Cha Eun Woo, Choi Dae Hoon, Lim Sung Jae, Kim Hae Sook, and Son Hyun Joo.

During a press event held on May 12 at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul, director Yoo In-sik and the cast carefully commented on the recent tax evasion controversy involving Cha Eun-woo while stressing the quality of the production itself.

Yoo In Sik said, “I learned about the issue through news reports after editing and post-production had already been completed,” expressing surprise over the situation.

He continued, “This project was a longtime personal dream, and every actor and staff member worked incredibly hard together. I approached the editing process with the drama’s overall quality as the top priority. However, I ask for your understanding that it is difficult for me, as the director, to directly comment on an individual actor’s personal issue.”

Despite the controversy, the director offered positive remarks about Cha Eun Woo’s performance in the series.

“This was a project that required emotionally and physically demanding acting,” Yoo said. “Cha Eun-woo, along with all the actors, approached the work passionately, and I’m satisfied with the final result.”

Park Eun Bin also spoke about the importance of teamwork during filming.

“The director emphasized harmony within the entire team, and that was something I paid the most attention to while filming as well,” she said. “Since everyone worked their hardest to create this project, I hope viewers will focus on the work itself.”
